Just what constitutes a ‘learning organization’ is a matter of some debate. As always, you can find a fairly detailed description/ synopsis on Wikipedia.  This posting provides links and pointers to numerous articles on topics central to ‘what it is to be’ a ‘learning organization’.

Although there are a multitude of definitions for defining learning organizations, according to Peter Senge, a learning organization must exhibit five main characteristics:

  1. Systems thinking,
  2. Personal mastery,
  3. Mental models,
  4. Shared vision, and
  5. Team learning.
